Can Tablets Overcome Laptops?

With laptops, you can create documents, process work files and other things that you usually do on a desktop, and the best part of all, you can bring them along whenever you want to go. Today more and more people are getting into the concept of bringing your office along whenever you may go, and laptops are the right tool to get that one. Not until recently, tablets came along.

Tablets are portable computing devices just like our laptops. Lighter than laptops, the tablet craze is slowly creeping its way to the market because of its similar capabilities with laptops and its lightweight and greater portability. As mentioned in the previous selections, a tablet has functionalities similar with laptops. You can browse the internet, check emails, store and play music and videos, capture photos and videos, and read e-books. You can also do your regular office work and other maintenance utilities with the use of office applications, and other applications similar to desktop applications like the ones used to optimize PC speed. I don’t think so because tablets are very compact and they cannot take place of pcs and laptop in the offices where so much works are done for long hours daily.

Thanks Puneet – to a degree I agree that they will not be used in this environment for prolonged periods of time with touch however it’s easy to buy keyboard extensions that will make them more usable in the office environment.

Same here I don’t think tablets can replace laptops. yes they can replace it for personal use but for professional use still pc and laptops are better and productive.

But in future, they may replace laptops if they get features like more memory and connectivity options.

Thanks Atish – As above; relatively cheap keyboard add ons (cheap for the ipad demographic anyway!) will solve this issue

Good question and article. I never thought about this. But tablets are too small. They make typing hard.

Good write up. I don’t think tablets can come over laptops. Both of them have different stands.

Tablets brings very comfort in our lives as a blogger however it will not overcome laptops because of having low features than laptop. some of the features are as follows.
1. laptops are more secure and easy to use.
2. keyboard are very small in tablets and causes difficulty in writing however in Laptops we can write with lot of ease as like typing through external keyboard.
3. screen difference.
4. network access difference.
and so on…… these are some of the points that gives edge to laptops instead of Tablets. great post and topic is really interesting.

Its tough to say if Tablet will be more popular than Laptops. I always love to work on Laptop rather than Tablet as it looks too small. I find difficult to work on Tablet. But its a good comparison between two gadgets.

I have both a laptop and an iPad, but I really doubt if a tablet can surpass laptops in terms of usability, particularly in terms of power and performance. Who knows, maybe the transformer prime or the ideapad yoga is on to something interesting for us in the future.

Good point Felicia however I’m still expecting there to be room for innovation in the tablet market. Whilst the ideapad yoga is ridiculously expensive for what it is (around £1200 expected retail price) it’s still very intriguing and quite a clever gadget
