XiaoMi Yi 1080P Action Camera: A Closer Look
XiaoMi has unveiled a Yi Sports Action Camera that is believed to be a GoPro Killer not only because it’s much cheaper than GoPro cameras but also the performance is somewhat closer. This Camera from XiaoMi costs less than $70, so now let’s raise the obvious question- Can a $70 camera can really beat a $400 GoPro camera? A normal person wouldn’t think so and neither would we. It’s just not realistic though it happens from time to time but still the mind is screaming the same question “really man”? Well let’s check out since over the course of this entire article we’ll be thoroughly reviewing the XiaoMI Yi Sports Action Camera. We would like to thank GearBest for offering the XiaoMi Yi 1080P Action Camera for an affordable price. They also offer other Action Cameras, click here to know about them.
The XiaoMI Yi Sports Action Camera is a 16 MP camera than can take pictures and record full HD videos at 60FPS. It has Sony Exmor R BSI CMOS 16 Million Pixel Sensor inside and 16MP CMOS F2.8 155° wide angle lens which together is quite impressive especially keeping the price point in mind. There’s no LCD though you can download the official app which is available for both Android and iOS platform. Talking about the connectivity options, it does have supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. We don’t know how much the inbuilt storage is but we’re sure there’s not enough though it supports a micro SD card up to 64 GB.
Weighing less than 70 grams, the camera is as light as a feather. Talking about Camera size- it is 60.4mm x 21.2mm x 42mm / 2.4 x 0.83 x 1.7 inches – dimensions alone are enough to describe how tiny the camera actually is. The camera is easy to handle and approach a minimalistic look which I believe is a main reason of not including the onscreen display. Apart from that, you have only two colour options- Green and White.
Camera has impressive sensors and the output images are also impressive. Burst mode is my favourite as it allows me to take remarkable pictures of moving objects. Colour output in both pictures and video is fantastic and to be honest this camera is best as compared to other budgets cameras out there. But the absence of display sometime disappoints me as it’s difficult to track with LED only that camera is currently recording or not. Overall the performance is good but it’s not a true action camera.
However for the price (camera can be bought for 85-99$) I do feel that this is the best choice for people who do not mind lack of LCD screen. Video colours are fantastic and I am sure that no other on-budget camera can beat XiaoMi at this point.
Battery life is important when we are talking about cameras. Packing a 1010mAh battery, the battery life is not that bad, it’s actually above average. You can actually shoot a full HD video at 60 FPS for more than one hour and 30 minutes. Apart from all this, you can charge the camera either with the adapter or via a micro USB cable.
So is it really a GoPro killer? No. But if you’re just a regular guy who needs pictures for social media, blogging etc. then this camera is really a good option. In fact, it is a best option and pocket friendly too. If the needs are more professional, the XiaoMI Yi Sports Action Camera might not be the one you’re looking for.
