How Often Do You Change Your Profile Picture?
Our social media profile pictures say a lot about us. A lot of times, they can act as some kind of first impression. They may show how happy we are (or pretend to be), or tell people how old we are by how we look in the profile photo, or by our actions in the profile photo. However, with that said, it’s not often that the average social media user actually updates their profile picture. In fact, on average, social media users only change their profile picture once every two years, according to a survey run by Bidvine.
HOW OFTEN DO PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR PICTURE FOR EACH SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT?
The below statistics were brought to you by the survey run by Bidvine. They polled 2,000 British social media users on the subject, asking the people they polled when they last changed their profile image on certain social media sites and applications. Here were the average results:
- Grindr – 2 weeks
- Tinder – 3 weeks
- WhatsApp – 2.5 months
- Facebook – 5 months
- Instagram – 6 months
- SnapChat – 8 months
- Twitter – 1.8 years
- LinkedIn – 2.1 years
- Plenty of Fish – 3.2 years
- Match.com – 4 years
Interestingly enough, dating website users were the ones who switch their profile pictures out the least. Even more interesting, 11% of the total people polled admitted that they hadn’t changed their profile picture in over ten years. But why is that? Well, the survey didn’t stop there. Bidvine asked those who they polled another question which lead to other interesting results.
WHY DON’T PEOPLE CHANGE THIER PROFILE IMAGE MORE OFTEN?
Bidvine also asked those polled this question: “If you don’t change a profile photo regularly, why do you think this is?” People’s answers? Well, as it turned out 62% of people just had a hard time finding new images they were happy with, and so they stuck with what they had. Another 49% of people said it was because they wanted to look younger on their social media accounts.
When asked about the subject, CEO of Bidvine, Sohrab Jahanbani, had this to say: “Looking at the regularity with which people change their profile photos, it appears that older, more conventional dating websites and the networks people use on a regular professional basis, such as LinkedIn and Twitter lag behind, while younger single people are more likely to want to use newer photos.
“It appears that people don’t change their photos because they struggle to find photos of themselves they like. So with this in mind, Bidvine is setting up pop up photo booths offering free professional photography for those who want to update their social media profile pictures. As we all know, whether it’s for a wedding, a company headshot or your online profiles, professional photos make a difference. We’ll be announcing cities and dates for the photo booths on our website shortly.”
